Bull's Eye Business Writing Tips

Tip #435:  Proposal writing:

These FREE weekly business writing tips
will help you improve your business writing.

Tip 435:  Proposal writing:  Someone asked, ”How do I write everything I want to say on the proposal pages?”  Answer:  You don’t.  Use white spaces generously, use key words and phrases, and bullet your items.  The proposal pages guide you through an effective presentation.

Weekly Exercise:

We receive over 200 emails per day.  We encourage you to answer our weekly tips, but please, if you are answering this weekly tip exercise,  identify the tip number in the subject line of your email.

This week’s quiz:

Can you answer this question?  How many pages are too many for a proposal or a report?

Reader's Comments:

Comments:  Jaime Glottman commented: Regarding tip # 434, you can always say "every person has the right to the information he or she needs"..... Which is a pain...  Isn't it time to get rid of the "he or she", "his or hers", etc.? We all

want to be non-sexist and politically correct, but we shouldn't be forced to

destroy the flow of our normal writing to prove the point! How about "it" and

"its" when you refer to either sex? It would be hard to introduce the  concept, but, in the long run, everyone would be grateful.

Quote of the week:

“Provision for others is the fundamental responsibility of human life.”  (Woodrow Wilson, 20th century American president)

Answer to this week's exercise:

The answer is that no matter what type of report or proposal you write make sure:

  • The writing is interesting and not boring, even to you.

  • Make sure you are getting your message across clearly and concisely.

  • Ask someone else to read it and give you some feedback.

These points will determine how many pages to write.
