Tip # 94: To be
politically correct, avoid feminine suffixes like "ess,"
"ette," and "trix."
For example: She has an established reputation as an author and poet. Do not refer to this woman as an authoress and poetess. Also use the words "flight attendant" instead of "steward" or "stewardess."However, a few terms with feminine suffixes are still widely used such as "waitress", "hostess", "heroine", and "fiancée." Instead of giving you an exercise this week, I will ask you to help me find the answer to this question," Can the words "biweekly" and "bimonthly" be used as synonyms, or are they used as completely different words? |
